23/11/09 One of the region’s biggest business support organisations has signed up its workforce as volunteers to support the young entrepreneurs of the future.
Business & Enterprise North East, the organisation which delivers the region’s Business Link and International Trade services, is one of many local organisations to have volunteered the expertise and passion for business of its employees to Young Enterprise North East, the region’s biggest enterprise education charity.
Over 20 employees at Business & Enterprise North East, an independent organisation which offers support to help north east businesses to start, succeed and grow, will become volunteers to deliver enterprise education programmes to the potential business stars of the future.
They will work alongside teachers and students at primary and secondary schools and universities across the region on one of Young Enterprise’s specifically designed programmes which promote ‘learning by doing.’
Chief Executive of Business & Enterprise North East Alastair McColl said: “I am delighted that so many members of the Business & Enterprise North East team have volunteered to participate in Young Enterprise programmes within local schools and universities. We know that the students involved will gain immensely from the knowledge and expertise our employees possess. It’s just one more way for them to help develop our future entrepreneurs in the region..”
YENE chief executive Catherine Marchant said: “Business & Enterprise North East is an ideal organisation for Young Enterprise to be associated with due to the fantastic work it does to help businesses of all size, to flourish in the region.”
“The passion and knowledge of the staff at Business & Enterprise North East will hopefully inspire a new generation of young entrepreneurs in the North East, and working with YENE will help deliver the organisation’s own corporate social responsibility goals.”
“We try to make our programmes as valid as possible and bringing real business people into the classroom to deliver our programmes can really ignite young minds. Plus the volunteers gain a really valuable experience outside of their day job that can aid their personal and career development.”
